BAHAMAS - FIELD UPDATES - WEEK 4
The week that was 4.
by Sue Clark
Friday was Alex’s birthday and we greeted thim for breakfast with bright red lights and bunting. We all got him a rasta hat and gave him a card. Had two amazing dives today at FT2 and T2A where we were coral spotting.
On Saturday we all wend out on our pleasure dive at Archie’s Freezer. We were followed by a Great Barracuda, which took Glen’s invitation seriously when he beckoned. Luckily he counted his fingers and all were intact. Back that the boat we saw a silky shark which circled us for ages – wonderful although it came pretty close to us all but gave up when it realized we weren’t a fishing boat. Divers were not to its taste!
Saturday night the usual fun, greared around Alex’s birthday bash. Naturally Alex did not emerge from his tent until very late on Sunday!
Landlubbers on Monday as the weather deteriorated but we had various lectures on fish ID and people started their navigation practice. It was fun walking round with hoodies over our heads on the volley ball pitch!
Tuesday – Valentines day! I got a cool poem from a mystery admirer. All our meals had a romantic theme and at night we wore something red. Jack passed his habitat test – what great timing! On the second dive we practiced surveying. Interesting!
Wednesday, week 4, how time flys! Dived at the Amphitheatre again – we were all either fish or coral spotting. On the way back we was a southern stingray in the shallows. It hung about and then eventually left us, flipping away over the sand.
Friday dawned – wet and windy so we did theory and the camp clean. Ordered our goodies for the shop run and then got ready for our trip down South tomorrow. We’re all terrifically excited, about the diving of course, but also about having beds, hot showers and flushing loos! How our aspirations have fallen! (Jayne waxed lyrical over her Digestive biscuits, cradling them in her arms).
