TANZANIA - FIELD UPDATES - WEEK 3

by Jonathon

Another week has gone by,
with Saturday ending it on a high,
It was a night of partying and glee,
fuelled by Safari and Konyagi.

Two snakes on camp caused a stir,
We all wondered what they were,
One was long but thin as a rake,
It turned out to be, an Olive-sand snake.

We all practiced throwing the spear,
The target a doll all riddles with fear,
Although the correct technique is not clear,
Its fair to say we are all getting near.

There’s been further antics from the mouse,
Which in the boys boma has made a house,
Biscuits and chewing gum it will taste,
Its even eaten my toothpaste.

On camp we have done some more construction,
with a lack of materials no obstruction,
with walls knocked on by Dave and Jay,
and roofing done the Maasai way.

Dawn on Friday we went to the lake,
And even though only half awake,
We saw a red and yellow barbet and hotenteal,
And also a vervet monkey looking for a meal.

Then to the market in Monduli Juu,
Where we ate mandazis, and samosas too,
Once we had all had our fill,
We walked back to camp feeling quite ill.

On Sunday night we were in for a treat,
Isaya's family we all did meet,
We ate some goat which was rather yummy,
But doesn't sit well in Mzungu tummy.

Like one big family we all sat around,
In front of a doctor, we knelt,
On the ground.
He blessed us all with chalk, on our head,
In the hope we wouldn’t all end up dead.

Soon our group shall number eight,
When Hannah arrives, our new mate.
All in all it's been a blast,
I can't believe it has all gone so fast!

JJ certainly takes the award for best one so far if only because he made us all laugh so much!
