TANZANIA - FIELD UPDATES - WEEK 6
Week 6 by Adam
This week has probably been the best so far. On Tuesday the lads went to a Maasai party where we saw lots of Maasai warriors dancing, Nguvu did not want to join in as he was wearing a fleece but there were over 100 others.
The girls all went off to Moshi to learn how to make fuel efficient stoves for burning wood. On Thursday we had our best meal so far with James cooking apple mendazis and chocolate fondue.
We left early on Friday morning to start our mid-phase break only to find that a mix up meant we were a day early. So instead we stayed in Arusha on Friday. It was good because we got to watch the cricket and have a curry.
Except for Jay who brought most of his up again later in Chris' bin. On Saturday as we left Arusha for the mid-phase break we had to say goodbye to Liz who was working during the weekend which was particularly upsetting for me. On Saturday night we arrived at Fig Tree Camp, which was really beautiful and we had all our food cooked for us. On Sunday morning we climbed up the waterfall nearby and jumped in the pool and near we saw a monitor lizard and lots of baboons in the trees. On Sunday evening we arrived at Lake Eyassi camp and watched a nice sunset. We left early on Monday morning to go hunting with the Hadzabe tribe. It was really exciting, and we caught a Barbet and Elephant Shrew which we were able to eat straight away.
On Monday afternoon we drove to Marera Tented Lodge, a luxury camp. The following morning saw a few people with very large bar tabs to pay off but having had a restful night! Tuesday was the best day, as we drove to Ngorongoro crater and as soon as we were in we saw a massive herd of zebra and a hyena. Only a couple of minutes later we drove toward a group of cars and saw two cheetahs lying on the grass.
I didn't think it could get any better but we then drove toward another group of cars and saw a dead buffalo. Next to it were six lions taking a nap. They soon woke up when a pair of jackals came to steal some of the food. The lions got up and chased the jackal away then started to eat the buffalo. To cap off a great trip we saw two elephants and a serval...
