Conservation in India

Conducted in Jaipur, Greenforce’s conservation project combines the best sights of India with truly inspiring activities. Jaipur is a fast developing expanse, which is being put under strain by the growing population – now estimated at around 4 million – creating an adverse effect on the environment and on the city’s precious natural resources.

Things need to happen to save the delicate balance and beauty of the city. The rapid urbanisation is causing deforestation, pollution, contaminated water and major health worries. Ultimately, raising awareness and making policy changes are pivotal. This is where you come in. A number of small initiatives are being supported by the local government. These are designed to reverse the trend and implement the necessary protection required to save Jaipur from the clutches of environmental hazards.

Whether it’s the young boy who grows up in the slums battling disease and the masses for access to clean drinking water or the elderly woman living in the finest housing Jaipur has to offer, this project is of immense value to all who reside within the ‘Pink Walls’.

Jaipur

Within the state of Rajasthan lies Jaipur, once the stronghold of clan rulers whose three hill forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions. Known as the Pink City because of the color of the stone used exclusively in the walled city, Jaipur is one of India’s most renowned tourist destinations for its blend of authentic Indian culture and modern lifestyles. In the afternoons and evenings after work, participants can look forward to exploring Jaipur’s many cultural places of interest. Some of the most famous places to visit are: Amber Fort, Nahargarh fort, Albert hall museum, Jantar mantar observatory, Hawa Mahal palace.

Essentials

What will I achieve?

Learn important environmental issues – If you are interested in conservation, this project will give you the opportunity to learn about many important environmental issues.

Witness the culture – Spending your time in India will enable you to get out and see how the Indian people live and their customs too.

Gain hands-on experience – All the activities provide great experiences you will be able to use when you return home.

Have fun – The weekends are yours to do as you will. Tiger safaris and the Taj Mahal are just two of the surrounding attractions, both within a few hours bus ride. And of course there’s Jaipur itself, which has so much to offer.

Accommodation & Food

All participants are accommodated in a guest house with all basic facilities for preparing food. Volunteers will live with other volunteers in this friendly atmosphere and comfortable environment. Jaipur is known for its traditional Indian food, such as Daal Baati, rajasthani Thali and Rasmalai.

• Most credit cards are accepted in India.

• Your money will be spent covering your ground costs e.g. food and accommodation. Any money left over will be put back into Greenforce Projects.

Country facts
• Population/Area – 1.3 Billion / 3.2 Million Square Kilometres.
• India is home to several hundred languages, of which 17 are official with Hindi and English being most widely spoken.
