Teaching Program:
Volunteers are trained to teach effectively in a cross cultural environment and provided teaching resources to assist the educational progress of children struggling to learn and institutions struggling to teach.
A volunteer’s familiarity with the English language is an enormous asset to the education of children in India, where knowledge of the English language substantially increases employability and important life skills. Volunteers lead classes in English education and
other subjects such as arts and crafts or sports like football, hockey, cricket and athletics.
During the school season, volunteers work in primary schools that are under-funded, over-crowded, or poorly managed. Expanding the outreach of educational initiatives, we collaborate with local communities to organize non-formal educational programs. These activities include bridge courses for students who are struggling to learn in school or dropouts. The educational activities also benefit children of migrant workers, who would otherwise not have access to education in any form. In these settings, volunteers impart the much needed education and create excitement about learning.
Accommodation:
Accommodation will vary depending on the project, but will be in shared bedrooms. The food is generally traditional Indian, which at times can be spicy. The breakfast varies from rice to Indian breads. For lunch and dinner you will have a variety of dishes, made of rice with Indian sauces and some vegetables.
The doors and windows are not mosquito-proofed; so don’t forget to bring mosquito nets or repellents.
There are no laundry facilities so get ready to go back to basics and wash your own clothes by hand!
