Taking a gap year is an ambition for most people, whether it be to Australia, America or other far reaching climes but most people wait until before university for their gap year. Not so for one intrepid adventurer who is taking a gap year at the tender age of 12.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, a young entrepreneur by the name of Gerald Roseman has jumped the gun somewhat after deciding to take a gap year slightly earlier than most would consider such a step. At the age of 12, Roseman, has decided to take a gap year that will see him take in all manner of spectacular sights and sounds from around the globe. Despite not having even started secondary school yet, Gerald Roseman, has decided that now is the best time for a gap year and he intends to not only see some of Europe's most impressive cultural capitals but will also make time for a spot of bear watching in Canada. Obviously, being 12, Gerald Roseman isn't taking this gap year alone as is usually the case; he will be accompanied on his trip by his parents, Caroline and Joe who are all for what is likely to be a culturally rich gap year for their son.
According to the report in the Daily Mail, this gap year opportunity presented itself to Gerald Roseman because he was actually moved up a year in the school system and this has given him the chance to see some of the world's most spectacular locales. His gap year adventure is already in full swing and, speaking to the Daily Mail, Gerald Roseman, stated, “I've been incredibly lucky to have a gap year so young. My favourite places so far have been Prague, because of all the history in the buildings, and Canada, with its wide open spaces.” So far as indelible memories are concerned, few things can provide more than a gap year and taking one at the age of 12 is only likely to intensify the experience.
A gap year really is a rite of passage of sorts and in Gerald Roseman's case it will also be educational prior to starting secondary school with his father, Joe, stating to the Daily Mail, “Gerald will see sights such as the Colosseum in Rome, which will bring what he has studied to life. The trips will have massive educational value because they will broaden his horizons.” During the course of his gap year, Gerald intends to visit Russia, Italy, France, Nepal, Bhutan and Germany and one thing is for sure; it will be an experience that lives long in the memory.
