Fiji Marine Conservation

Join Gapforce Fiji, our volunteer marine survey group, and you'll soon find yourself living on a stunning South Pacific island being taught how to dive in the crystal blue Pacific Ocean.

Spend your days diving on exquisite coral reefs collecting vital survey data with our Marine Biologists and help create a Seascape multi-use reserve in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Coral Reef Alliance.

What to Expect

Learn to become an experienced diver– We will train you to PADI Advanced Open Water level so that you can complete project work effectively and dive with the best, including PADI Emergency First Response!  By the end of our program, you will dive like an expert with memories to last a lifetime!

Learn how to protect the reef – Our expert scientists will teach you how to identify animal and coral species, how to monitor marine movements and complete underwater reef surveys, and how to ensure that the reef stays intact for generations to come!  These classes will give you the knowledge to effectively complete your research and open you up to the mysteries of the underwater world!

Weekly community visits & free time – Once a week you will head into the village and spend some time with the local community. Activities involve playing with excited and energetic children, spending time with your adopted families, eating the delicious local cuisine, drinking kava and of course relaxing! Spend your Friday nights partying with friends, making memories, and making Fiji your home.

Dive in one of the top 10 diving destinations in the world – The Namena Marine Reserve is known as one of the most beautiful reserves out there! It is home to a variety of sharks, barracuda and thousands of species of fish and coral all living healthy, unspoiled lives in the sparkling clear Pacific waters.  Once you gain experience, head out to this famous reserve and experience the wonder of the reef for yourself!

Why I Chose Fiji

"Volunteers on this program get the opportunity

to learn to dive in a unique tropical environment

and progress quickly, leaving as an experienced

diver. They work very closely with marine scientists

to learn to identify almost everything in the ocean

and conduct coral reef surveys, improving their

diving further. This program is broken up with time

spent with the community in local villages. Each

volunteer is assigned a host family in the village of

Navatu, with whom they spend a lot of time and

are treated as one of their own children (no matter

the age!). On no tourist trip will you get to see real

Fiji in such a unique way."
